You have
a reason
to
celebrate,
a date
and a
place,
but how
do you
make it
special?
The
easiest
way is
to
create a
theme
for your
party.
It
sounds
more
complicated
then it
is. I
get
inspiration
from
just
about
anything.
To find
a theme
ask
yourself
the
following
questions:
1) Who
is the
party
for? Is
it for
an
individual
or a
group?
2) What
is the
party
for?
3) Is it
casual
or
formal?
Now pick
one
object
or color
that
summarizes
the
person
or
groups
favorite
activity
– ta’da
instant
theme.
For this
example
we will
say the
party is
for the
bowling
team.
Reason
for the
party is
they won
the
tournament
-
definitely
going to
be a
casual
party.
My one
object
will be
a
bowling
ball –
pretty
much
sums up
bowling.
For this
example
I would
make a
giant
bowling
ball out
of
papier-mâché,
or even
just a
giant
black
balloon
with
white
circles
glued to
it. I’ll
use this
as a
centerpiece
on the
food
table to
serve as
a focal
point.
Maybe
some
black
balloons
around
the room
with
white
“holes”
and
plates
that
look
like
bowling
balls.
I’d use
a black
tablecloth,
and a
piece of
brown
fabric
one foot
wide to
act as a
runner
to
simulate
a
bowling
lane.
Even
stack
the
drink
cups and
soda’s
at the
end to
simulate
the
pins.
Scatter
some
paper
cutouts
of balls
and pins
on the
tables.
I may
even rip
a CD
with
music
about
bowling.
The
objective
of a
theme is
to
coordinate
an idea
by using
color
and
symbols
to
create a
feeling
as the
guests
walk
into the
room.
Use one
dominant
color
but
different
hues of
that
color,
or try
contrasting
colors.
Don’t
count
out
colors
that you
normally
wouldn’t
put
together
– look
at
nature
for
inspiration.
Simplify
your
symbols
but make
them
really
big or
really
small,
taking
into
account
the size
of your
room.
You want
the
symbols
to be a
topic of
discussion
but not
an
obstacle.
