St. Valentine’s Day Massacre Murder Mystery to Benefit Shakespeare at Play

Contributed by Nora Feldman, Community Editor

On Sunday, February 12th, beginning at 6:00 p.m., Shakespeare At Play will hold a Murder Mystery Dinner Fundraiser at The Castaway Restaurant in Burbank.

At a time when funding for the arts has been cut or limited, SHAKESPEARE AT PLAY’s mission is to bring classical theatre into the schools and local communities for everyone to experience and enjoy.  The 501 © (3) non-profit company receives no federal, state or government funding.  Rather, it relies on generous donations from individuals, grants from corporations and foundations, as well as from fundraising events.

The company is comprised of award-winning professional actors, directors, writers and producers who have performed and worked at regional theatres throughout the United States and Canada, New York  - both on and off-Broadway,  as well as prestigious theatrical events all over the world, including venues in China and the United Kingdom.

This past summer, at the request of the Burbank Public Library, SHAKESPEARE AT PLAY presented free to the public productions of both TWELFTH NIGHT and THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR outdoors in Burbank’s Lincoln Park.  The productions were so well received that Shakespeare at Play has been invited back for several performances in the summer of 2006.

The fall has brought workshops and productions in partnership with The Colony Theatre Company for the LAUSD and Burbank Schools, as well as performances at the Huntington Library & Gardens in San Marino.

Upcoming projects include continuing performances and workshops for the schools, and performances as fundraisers for other charitable organizations.

The Murder Mystery Fundraiser festivities begin at 6:00 p.m., with hors d’oeuvres, live music by Davidson and Colman, a no host bar and silent auction.   The Murder Mystery Dinner commences at 7:00 p.m., followed by dancing to the music of Bluz Blu Johnney.

Tickets for the event are $50.00 and are tax-deductible.

The Castaway Restaurant is located at 1250 Harvard Road in Burbank.

For reservations or information please call SHAKESPEARE AT PLAY at (818) 566-1925.
