Did you
know
there
are
approximately
90,000
homeless
persons
on any
given
night in
Los
Angeles
County
and that
Los
Angeles
only has
enough
emergency
shelter
beds to
accommodate
less
than 6%
of this
homeless
population.
Some
people
say that
there
will
always
be
homeless
individuals
and
families
on the
streets.
There is
one
organization
that is
working
hard to
make
this
untrue.
Nohoartsdistrict.com
would
like to
acknowledge
the
wonderful
work
provided
by L.A.
Family
Housing.
Founded
in 1983,
the
mission
of L.A.
Family
Housing
was to
help
homeless
families
and
individuals
rebuild
their
lives
through
an
integrated
system
of
housing
and
supportive
services.
In total
they now
own and
operate
21
properties,
including
three
homeless
shelters
and 18
permanent
affordable
apartment
buildings.
The
bridge
from
emergency
shelter
to
permanent
housing
is
strengthened
by their
provision
of
comprehensive
services
in their
shelters
and
their
apartments
to meet
the
residents’
needs.
LAFH
served
more
than
2,500
people
in
poverty
this
past
year,
and has
served
more
than
100,000
people
since
its
inception.
L.A.
Family
Housing
will
celebrate
its 25th
Anniversary
with a
dinner
and
awards
program
on
Tuesday,
May 13
at the
Skirball
Cultural
Center.
This
gala
will
honor
individuals
who have
contributed
to the
awareness
and
solutions
of
homelessness
and
poverty.
Over 400
prominent
political,
community
and
business
leaders
will be
attending.
Funds
raised
are used
to
provide
a
comprehensive
range of
housing
and
supportive
services
to help
individuals
and
families
rebuild
their
lives.
Hosting
this
evening
affaire
will be
Alfre
Woodard
with
honorees
– Audrey
Irmas &
NoHo’s
own HOWS
Market.
