The Down-Lo in NoHo

This is NoHo. This is where we live. This is where we work.
This is where we have fun. This is where a new era of community, business, arts, and ideas flourish. This is NoHo: Meet some of the players.

What do you do to pay your bills? I am currently working at the new bakery in North Hollywood, called Panera Bread in order to pay my bills.

Why did you move to NoHo? I moved to NoHo because the rent my family was paying in Glendale was way to high. We found a house to rent cheaper then the apartment we were living in.

What do you do for fun in NoHo? I love to hang out with my friends going to the North Hollywood Park. We love to go out to eat at all the little restaurants. There are little stores that I love to shop at as well. One of my favorites' is The Bureau.

Is there something unique or secretive about NoHo that you’d like to share with others? That we're here!

What’s missing in NoHo?  I think better hang out spots for younger kids is missing. A nice place to just hang out with your friends and not have to worry about being a certain age would be nice.

What needs improving in NoHo? I think that the streets could be cleaned up a little better. Certain parts of NoHo can be pretty nasty. People should just take responsibility and pick up after themselves. It is not that hard to through your trash in a TRASHCAN!

What is the meaning of life in NoHo?  The meaning of life in NoHo to me means, that every person in this city is trying to make it somewhere. Whether it be a dancer or an actor. Everyone is getting involved in everything, theater, comedy, food...everyone is just trying to be all they can be in this fabulous city of North Hollywood

Will you attend the NoHo Scene Festival first weekend of October? Probably

Obama or McCain? Obama!!

What do you do to pay your bills? I work as a business analyst for SADA Sytstems, a high-end, service-oriented technology company. That usually requires some explanation as 'business analyst' sounds like an impressive title, without really describing what I do. I interact with our clients and communicate their needs and wants to the developers who then turn around and create websites and applications.

Why did you move to NoHo? To pursue a career as an actor. That would probably surprise some of the people I work with. My background, in fact my degree, is in acting and directing for the stage. While stagecraft might be where I spent my training I enjoy working in film and television as well, so about three years ago my wife and I made the move.t's convenient, safe, get a lot for my money, can park, I love my place and the surroundings.

Have you recently seen a theater show in NoHo? Yes, my wife and I went to see  a friend of mine, Veronique Ory, in the recent Athena Theatre Company production of Metamorphoses. The play is based on the myths of Ovid, and tells a number of different stories that have very different degrees of impact on the audience. Some are touching and thoughtful, others funny, and there's at least one that is a little disturbing. On the whole it was a great night of theatre, continuing the Athena Theatre Company's streak of strong productions and great performances.

What do you think about the new Laemle Theater coming?  It'll be nice to have one that's as close by as that. Though I am a little concerned about what it will do to parking in the neighborhood. As it is it can be tough to find a spot some nights, if overflow parking for the theatre is forced to go out onto the streets it might make the parking situation very tough for residents. Especially those residents who depend on street parking for their own cars.bike all over, go salsa dancing at various studios and clubs in the area, and frequent the libraries and book stores..

What’s missing in NoHo?  We could probably use more bicycle lanes. The bike path on chandler is nice, but in the absence of a lane or a path, bicyclists are riding on the sidewalks or the streets. Both are pretty dangerous. There may already be one, but a homeless shelter would go a long way toward easing the homeless presence on the streets. Paying guys in yellow shirts to harass and antagonize the vagrant population doesn't really do anything to address the problem. At best it shifts it elsewhere, at worst it causes resentment among the homeless for those of us with jobs, homes, and some security..

What are your hobbies, interests etc? I'm an actor so I spend a lot of time in plays. I'm also a martial artist and teach Kung-Fu and Escrima twice a week in North Hollywood. One of my students arranged for us to have an indoor space, but you can still find me occasionally working out in the park right by Tujunga.

Obama or McCain? Personally, Obama by a mile. If I were to lay money on it…that’s tougher but I’d have to (grudgingly) put my chips on McCain’s square. Put simply, there are huge, huge parts of the country that will look at Obama’s name and the color of skin, and nothing else. They’ll vote for anybody with white skin and a good American (sounding) name.
