Taking Care of Furry Friends Before and After Katrina

Contributed by the Publisher of NoHoArtsDistrict.Com

Jim Crawford and his six deputies from Leroy Michigan deserve a standing ovation for their unselfish and heroic rescue mission to New Orleans after the Katrina Hurricane. These men worked day and night without sleep or proper food to rescue hundreds of dogs and cats from the cruelest of fates…death from starvation, dehydration, fires and many of the same things that harmed and killed humans. However, many animals lived up to their reputation of “Man’s Best Friend” by jumping into the contaminated water to search for their human family. They either drowned or traveled so far that they will never be found by their family again. Right now there are several wonderful organizations are helping to place our furry Katrina victims.

When you see a homeless dog or cat in the NoHo Arts District, please find them a home. I don’t want to have to ask Jim Crawford and his six deputies to come to NoHo to rescue our furry friends from many of the same horrors experienced by dogs and cats in New Orleans.

In North Hollywood, there are hundreds of homeless animals that want to have a home. Here are three things you can do:

1.       Find the animal’s owner - check the newspapers under “lost & found,” place an ad under “found” ads in newspapers which are usually free.

2.       Make the animal a part of your family

3.       Find an organization that will find them a good home and will not kill them.

Thank you, Jim Crawford and deputies for reminding us that we need to take care of our two- and four-legged brothers and sisters.
