On Saturday, October 15th, from 1PM ‘til closing, the Universal Bar and Grill will host the Gulf Coast Recovery Fundraiser to benefit The National Organization for Victim Assistance (www.trynova.org), which provides free mental and emotional first-aid to disaster victims.

There will be great food, door prizes, games and great music all day long with and an incredible line-up, hand-picked by UBG’s Casey Hogrefe, that includes Kelly’s Lot (www.kellyslot.com), Slow Car Crash (www.slowcarcrash.com), The Haskells (www.thehaskellsrock.com), The Shamus Twins (www.shamustwins.com), Chuck Wagon and The Gravy Train (www.chuckwagonandthegravytrain.com), Even Pete (www.evenpete.com), Justaddjack, Joe Finkle (of Voodoo Train, www.voodootrain.com), Blake Davis, and New Orleans Artist: Scott Detweiler (www.detweilermusic.com).

The Universal Bar & Grill (www.universalbarandgrill.org), is a North Hollywood landmark and a family business, owned by George Laczko and daughter Eva Laczko. Of Casey’s 18 years in the bar business, eight of them have been with the UBG. Casey’s experience has given him a unique perspective on the bar business.

Casey believes that although bars are not usually the first thing that comes to mind when people think of establishments that support the local community charities, it is precisely bars (especially the ones that feature live music) that are in a position to help their communities. This is because they have access to a wealth of talent (especially in the Los Angeles area) that can be called upon to assist in producing fundraising benefits.

Through Casey, the UBG has had a long association with fundraising for many different charities, including Activist’s Arts, Sets for Vets, Homeboys Unidos and Northwest Medical Teams, and now NOVA, with this benefit event on October 15th. He says, “We are always open to help with charitable causes in the community”.
