| The NoHo Local Stage at Chandler Boulevard South and Fair Avenue gets
started each day with the consciousness expanding music of Aumash and the Om
drum. Swami Aumashananda has been making and playing drums for 30 years and
will recreate the sound of the "first vibration of the universe" for the opening ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Then grab a coffee, tea, or your favorite beverage, and sit back and relax to singer/songwriters and spoken word performances during coffee hour each morning at 11:15 a.m. Scheduled performers include Mary Uhas, Susan Sheller, Ife Oshun, Rebecca Harris, The Gathering, and Michelle Cummings. Dance is in the spotlight both days at noon. On Saturday, June 24, the Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio will entertain festival goers. Hip Hop Hooray, led by Shiva Bagheri from the Millennium Dance Center, Art of the Dance Academy, one of the top dance centers for children in Los Angeles, and the North Hollywood Baptist Gospel Group will wow the crowd on Sunday, June 25. The NoHo Local Stage showcases the diverse talents of our local performers. The weekend's host band is Kelly's Lot. Kelly, the lead singer will emcee the festivities on the NoHo Stage. She'll also sing her heart out while she wears you out with her energy. Kelly's Lot is rock and roll with a special sauce that includes pop, folk, Latin rhythms, the blues and other eclectic sounds.
Scheduled performers include Gene Butler—a singer at heart, this actor entertains with his music. Think country music with a raspy edge. Also on the bill is asa cruz, a modern alternative rock band with infectious melodies, poignant lyrics, and layered harmonies. Tommy Holmes, a pop rock artist originally from San Jose has made NoHo his home. You'll enjoy Tommy's upbeat and intelligent music with lyrics that have something to say. Kanary is a 3-piece alternative rock band with a unique style. Leslie, a young woman with pink and orange hair, fronts Kanary. She speaks the lyrics, enjoys an operatic interlude or belts out the words to their fresh, original songs. Then there is Chris Bell and 100% Blues, a blues band has been seen all over town from B.B. Kings to Harvelles to "The Rock War 2000 Blues Day" at Hollywood Park. Also scheduled to perform is the Circle of Faith Gospel Choir and Band, a local choir that will bring you to your knees. If your spirits need lifting, stop by to hear singer/songwriter Dee Dee O'Malley's uplifting melodies, her lyrics and especially her voice. She is an excellent entertainer with or without her great band. For muddy funk-inflected rock, you won't want to miss the performance of Captain Pants, a high energy band that will make you groove, groove, groove. The female fronted alternative-pock-rock band Ripe will mesmerize the crowd with an infectious hybrid of live instrumentation, modern sampled loops, heavy guitars and catchy melodic songs. Close out Festival weekend with the NoHo Jam—a bunch of NoHo locals led by Eddie Batos, the lead singer of the infamous Nervis Bros. There is no telling who will show up on stage.
