Holiday Fun and Music Extraordinaire With Donny and Marie: Christmas In Los Angeles!

Okay, I grew up with them. I have seen Donny in concert. I have seen The Osmonds in concert twice and I even have seen a late 70s Donny and Marie tour once as well! Yes, I was a fan. Let me tell you that their opening night at The Pantages Theatre in Hollywood of ‘Donny and Marie: Christmas In Los Angeles’ was fun, fast, entertaining and filled with energy and crowd pleasing moments.

The show opens with a usual fare of Christmas hits and jingles. The stage is colorful, decorated with holly and lights and even a huge Christmas tree on one side and a fireplace on the other!

Donny would frequently mention his glorious win on Dancing with the Stars to take jabs at his sister, who did not win. Yes they sang their hit singles, “Puppy Love” and “Paper Roses” too, but what made if fun was how much humor and cheer they brought to their show. They are hip and extremely savvy to what makes for good entertainment in a live performance.

Yes, there was even ‘a little bit of country and a little bit of rock n’ roll’ on stage. It was amazing to hear the Broadway songs that Donny sings at his stint as Joseph in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and then Marie amazingly performs her Maria from “The Sound of Music.” This show had Motown, reggae, jazz, pop, opera and even a proud bow to the big bands.

At 54-year-old Donny Osmond sings a clever mash-up of “Celebration,” Taio Cruz’s chart-topping “Dynamite” and the latest phenomenon “Gangnam Style.” It was amazing and the audience was applauding and singing along all night!

For 50 years and after his first his appearance on “The Andy Williams Show,” his charming smile still can melt hearts. Donny shows off his musical range and dancing abilities by powering through hip hop dance moves to the classic Osmond hit “Yo Yo” and his other hit “Soldier of Love.” In a tribute and extreme appreciation to Andy Williams, he does a heartfelt rendition of “Moon River” who he mentioned had passed earlier this year.

Marie was incredible with her vocal range! Not many performers can transition from receiving a standing ovation for an operatic excerpt from “Madame Butterfly” into a medley of Kander and Ebb hits like “All That Jazz,” “Cabaret” and “The World Goes Round” and have the audiences dancing in their seats.

Individually they are masterful entertainers. Together they are pure dynamite!

Having set up their show in Las Vegas at the Flamingo Hotel, they bring it all together in this glittering spectacular by opening the overall gift that is their music. “Jingle Bells,” with some family humor to “Let It Snow!” and a little California respect with the Beach Boy’s “Little St. Nick” rock out the audience and dancers alike!

An amazing evening which included the throwing out to every audience member some candy canes. While doing a group sing along of “Jingle Bells,” Marie was giving lipstick garnished kisses to dozens of men in the audience and Donny was out in the audience giving hugs and kisses as well as shaking hands of everyone he could reach!

Donny and Marie’s costumes were amazing, sheik and stylish. Marie can wear skirts, boots, short dresses, cowgirl hats and sequence with amazing grace and sexy beauty.

You can really tell there is 50 years of show business experience on stage. When you wrap it up in amazing choreography, cleverly fun costuming, bright theatrical lighting and electronic closed circuit TV images on a big screen, and you have a night of pure entertainment.

If you want a high energy show of two of America’s most memorable icons, ‘Donny and Marie: Christmas In Los Angeles’ is the show for you! Bring the family and all your friends because I guarantee you, you’ll be singing, dancing and laughing with a Holiday cheer!
