It is a pleasure to introduce the Rico Adair Gallery to the NoHo Community.....

What made you decide to open up a gallery in NOHO?

The decision was really an answered prayer. We knew we needed to reach out to the NOHO arts district. Once that decision was made, we were immediately given an opportunity by Experience NoHo Festival producers, Cella Gallery and nohoartsdistrict.com to curate the Locals Only Art Gallery for the festival. We were supposed to have the show outdoors in the courtyard of the NOHO commons but the rain forced us indoors to our current location.

Didn't you have a gallery on Laurel Canyon...how long there?

Yes, We opened in March of 2011. 8 months.

Aren't you both artists?  Tell us a little about your art careers.

We are. Rico has been making art and music from a very early age. He has toured the world playing bass in a couple of his bands Bottom 12 and Touch Candy. He has had an extensive career as a designer selling to Hot Topic and High End Specialty boutiques all over Los Angeles and across the country. Rico also has a strong background in art installation hanging works or Rauschenberg , Koontz, Basquiat , and others for Peter Norton's personal collection.

I was a dancer for many years and had the honor of dancing on stage next to James Brown (about 4 feet away) at the Superbowl halftime show in New Orleans. I have been making/selling art for the past 15 years or so.

What type of gallery will you have at Lofts at NOHO?

We want to keep the gallery a creative space... creativity should remain open. I will show any type of art that moves Rico or myself. past or present.

What are your submission requirements for artists?

We prefer 3-10 images of works emailed to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or links to website/fb etc. If that is not an option we will schedule an appointment in person.

Pros/cons of a husband and wife team running a gallery?

Lots of Pros. We know each other very well. We have a similar artistic constitution and aesthetic which makes things run smooth when moving in a certain direction.  The cons are pretty much the same.... because we are so similar we sometimes need to work separately to get things done. Only one chef at a time.

What exhibits have you done since you opened?

We have already had many exhibits since Nov. The Locals Only Gallery, Art is a Gift: Holiday Show, and one of our monthly Rico Adair live dress/scarf making event.

We are planning our 2012 Schedule right now. Which will include a Live interactive Screenprinting/ Fashion show, Tales of Venice: a look at the destruction of the pop pier, Godzilla and  Friends: a benefit for Japan, a Visual History of Punk In L. A. / film screening, and A Zombie show.

Rumor tells me that Carter Sexton is also moving next door to you?

We are still discussing the options.
