The Colony Theatre Company presents

OLD WICKED SONGS

Written by Jon Marans
Directed by Stephanie Vlahos

The Colony Theatre Company once again gives us a winner with the remarkable play OLD WICKED SONGS written by Jon Marans and directed by Stephanie Vlahos. This is a play you MUST SEE. Not just for the beautifully written two character play, but also for the amazing and superb performances by John Towey and Tavis Danz.

Set in a well-worn voice teacher’s music studio in the beautiful city of Vienna, John Towey’s performance as Professor Joseph Mashkan confirms to us why we love theatre so much, sweeping us away into the life of a man whose only joy is his passion and understanding of the music he loves. Tavis Danz is wonderful as the on edge, uptight and repressed young music student Stephen Hoffman who has come to Vienna to study to be an accompanist for classical artists. Stephen is sent to Professor Mashkan to learn how to better connect with the passion of the music he plays. The expertise of these two actors transports us into their journey keeping us thoroughly engrossed and we come away completely satisfied. Other productions of this play have used recorded music, but both John Towey and Tavis Danz are musically trained which brings us even closer to their characters and the beauty created by the classical music of German composer Robert Schumann.

Jon Marans play was a 1996 Pulitzer Price finalist, and both Mr. Marans play and Stephanie Vlahos’ direction create an outstanding production. Everything about this production is wonderful. Sets, lighting, costumes…and I could go on and on about the music! As you can tell from this review, I loved this play, and the performances of two actors who I hope to see in many more productions.

OLD WICKED SONGS is a MUST SEE at the Colony Theatre in Burbank.

Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!
