The Art Institute of California – Hollywood announces its first gallery exhibit in its new NoHo Arts District location featuring the photography of Ted VanCleave. Also featured will be Hope Anderson’s 15-minute video history of the Hollywood Sign from its beginnings in 1923 to the present day.

“The Hollywood Sign is an international, iconic symbol that is recognized by hundreds of millions of people worldwide. It symbolizes not only Hollywood, but it also embodies people’s perception of California, the film and entertainment industries, and the dreams of everyone who have enjoyed movies and television” says VanCleave about his subject.

Created for The Art Institute of California – Hollywood from Hope Anderson’s 2009 documentary, “Under the Hollywood Sign,” the 15-minute piece combines archival film and stills with contemporary footage and interviews with such notables as Laura Archera Huxley, Hugh Hefner and Bill Pullman.

The Ted VanCleave: Hollywood Sign Series exhibition is on view from October 20 through December 18. Gallery is open to the public at no charge.

An artists’ reception will be held November 23rd from 5pm – 8pm.

Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday 9am to 8pm, Friday 9am to 4pm, and Saturday from 10am to 2pm.

  1. The way the Hollywood picture is created makes for a facinating work of art.
