An
Evening With Debbie Reynolds
Review by

Debbie
Reynolds is one hot mama at
77 years old! She not only
has the gams to prove it,
she is as hilarious as all
get out and has enough
warmth to spread the entire
planet with sunshine. The
audience at the El Portal on
Wednesday was eating out of
her hand for the full 90
minute set, which this time
around had an intermission.
Never one to spare her
thoughts, “Go pee, or
whatever else comes out!”,
Debbie advised.
With great songs: "From This
Moment On", "That's Life!",
"Falling In Love Is
Wonderful", a whole Gershwin
medley, “I Love a Piano”,
and a tribute to pal Judy
Garland… and Debbie's
signature hit "Tammy",
impressions of Katie
Hepburn, Zsa Zsa and Barbra
Streisand (BS) - this one,
no one does better than
Debbie, even the singing;
sorry, Jim Bailey! - and
film clips from her musical
films, to which Deb sang &
danced along joyously, the
show was a real treat, like
a soufle. There were even
funny movie out-takes from
old stars like Jimmy
Stewart, Bette Davis, Bogie,
and Ronald Regan fumbling
with a zipper (to which
Debbie quipped, “It must be
a Presidential thing!”) -
these are priceless and
going into her new museum in
Pigeon Fork, Tennessee. Best
of luck with that, as
Hollywood sure missed the
boat!
Debbie loves what she does
from the bottom of her heart
and she loves her audiences.
God bless her and may she
never retire!
Musical director Joey Singer
is such a versatile
musician, playing not only
piano, but also bass and
guitar. He performed a
dynamite “Classical Gas” on
the guitar while La Deb made
a quick change.
Debbie Reynolds: An Evening
of Comedy and Song runs at
the El Portal until Sunday,
May 10 only (that’s Mothers
Day!) Take your mom, as
Debbie Reynolds in person
makes the ultimate gift!
Don't miss her!
