Subject: NOHO cpl. breaking
into voice-over work
My
wife and I are thinking
about breaking into the
voice-over game. I know
there are hundreds of sites
on the web but I am a little
overwhelmed by it all. We
also work and live in the
NOHO and Burbank area which
I know is the hot bed of all
sorts of studios. How do we
find the right classes,
studios, and agents? Or do
you recommend a web sites
that well guide us to more
of a local directory.
Dear
Kantresa,
Please
correct me if I spell your
name wrong.
Voiceovers are a good place
to start working in
Hollywood. Of course, many
of the best voice over
studios are actually in the
valley, Burbank and North
Hollywood. So, NoHo is a
good place to start.
First, do
what all actors must do.
Frequent the small theatres
in LA and talk with people
about who they go to for
voice over classes. Also,
check the trade mags for
voice over auditions and
classes.

Ads start
can be tricky. Experience
will help.
You must
meet as many people as
possible who act in the
business. Connections are
the key. Training gives you
an advantage.
And a
VOICE OVER DEMO TAPE is a
must.
Do a
commercial, a song, a poem,
a character in a movie or
play, different voices such
as cartoon voices, children
voices to show your range –
in other words let them HEAR
YOUR TALENTS.
Good luck
and tell me how you succeed.

Subject: urgent enquiry
Dear Roy,
Hi,I m Kushala.
I came to know about you and
your organization while I
was surfing on the net.
Roy I have a query, it would
be great if you help me out
with the below.
“I have an excellent voice
quality and want to utilize
it.
Can you tell me how I can
make best use of it and is
there a way I can make my
career out of it?
Is it possible that I can be
a radio jockey or a news
reader or do voice dubbings
for movies?”
Pls advise..
Regards,
Kushala
Dear Kushala,
If you have a wonderful
voice, you are blessed.
There are careers in VOICE
OVERS, COMMERCIALS, SINGING,
CARTOON VOICES, CHILDREN
VOICES, VOICES FOR
NARRATIONS, RADIO NEWS,
RADIO DJ’S, VJ’S and working
as SPOKESPERSON, SALES
PEOPLE, TELEPHONE OPPERATORS,
TELEPHONE MESSAGES (there
are companies who make
operator messages for the
phone services and business
services), TELEMARKETERS,
and TEACHERS, CONVENTION
FLOOR PA ANOUNCEMENTS and of
course, THEME PARKS. There
are many ways to use your
voice and put it to work.
5 Steps 2 Success
1. Get voice training from
the greatest teachers you
can find.
2. Make demo tapes of you
voice in the areas you want
to sell yourself.
3. Audition when and
wherever you can.
4. Hang out with others in
the business and learn from
them.
5. Get representation (do
the other 4 above, first)
seek a Manager, Agent,
Publicist, etc.
The best way to get going in
the business is to get going
in the business. Only you
can put yourself in front of
people. You must be brave
and energetic. Never think
you know everything. Never
think you are better than
anyone else. Just be the
best you can be, gain
confidence by doing it and
if you are good, then,
others will tell you how
good you are.
Show biz can be a hard road
even when it comes easy. So,
never take it for granted.
You must do due diligence
everyday. Yesterday, I
worked from 8am on Saturday
to 1:30am Sunday morning.
Got a few nods and then
again I’m up and writing
this since at 7am this
Sunday morning. The business
of Show Business does not
rest. You can turn on a
radio or TV any time of the
day or night everyday and
night and that is what a lot
of us have to get used to in
order to survive in this
biz.
So, if you think you must do
it to feel like you have
used your god given talents,
then, I applaud you and
invite you to take the big
step toward your goals,
whatever they may be.
There are radio and TV
channels in the Asian
countries that need good
VJ’s. Where ever you live,
check out your local TV and
radio stations first. Before
you approach them, PLEASE
for your sake, DO THE 5
STEPS 2 SUCCESS that are
listed above.
Best of luck to you,
Roy
